Heart of Hope Cat Sanctuary and Feline Education Center
It seems that there are more homeless, lonely, and unwanted cats than ever before. The Heart of Hope Cat Center and Feline Education Center, founded by Rita Reimers and Iris Goldman, will be a cage-free Cat Sanctuary where saving shelter cats who have been "red listed" will be the focus. These out-of-time cats will reside at the facility in a loving home-like atmosphere, where they will live out their days and/or get a second chance at being adopted. No stressful mobile adoption events for these cats; adoption events will be held on the santuary premises, where perspective cat parents will be assisted throughout the adoption and placement process by the center staff. The initial goal for the Heart of Hope Cat Center is to
begin by housing 50 cats, with plans to grow to handle as many as 200. The location within Los Angeles County has not yet been determined; that will largely
depend upon funding and community support. Heart of Hope also seeks to help boost the community by creating jobs at the center.
In addition to being a Sanctuary, the secondary goal of Heart of Hope is to hold Feline Eduction classes, enabling cat parents to learn about topics such as:
  • Feline Behavior
  • Nutrition and the Overweight Cat
  • Pet CPR
  • Adding a new cat to your multi-cat household
A Boarding Facility, a Veterinarian, and a Grooming facility will share the space with the Sanctuary, along with a cat supply store and a coffee and snack bar. Sales in these areas will help sustain the Sanctuary and rely less on donations.Heart of Hope was named after a kitty Rita Reimers recently adopted. Hope, whose original name was Bongo, was the last remaining shelter cat at the end of an adoption event hosted by Best Friends. A sweet, tiny 4-year-old, Hope had been surrendered to the Baldwin Park Shelter by her owners 2 weeks before, and only had 3 days left to find her forever home. She found it.
